Charging methods for acidic batteries

date:2023-12-19

First time charging. New or long-term inventory batteries need to undergo initial discharge before use, and the steps are as follows:

① First, unscrew the water cap and remove the seal of the small hole on the cap to allow air to flow freely.

② Add the prepared electrolyte with a density of 1.285 (note that sulfuric acid should be slowly injected into distilled water when preparing the electrolyte), and add it to 10-15mm above the separator.

③ After adding the electrolyte, let the battery stand for 2-3 hours to connect the positive and negative poles of the battery to the positive and negative poles of the power supply, and prepare for discharge.

④ Preliminary charging shall be carried out according to the current and time specified in Table 2-59. The first stage of current charging increases the terminal voltage of each small battery to 2.4V, and then switches to the second stage of current charging until the voltage and electrolyte ratio remain basically unchanged within 3 hours.

Regular charging methods. The regular charging of acidic batteries is carried out in two stages, and the charging current and time are shown in Table 2-59. The first stage of charging is to increase the battery voltage to around 2.4V per battery, and then move on to the second stage of charging until the electrolyte density reaches 1.285 and is evenly distributed, indicating that the charging is complete.
